Wintergreen Boxwood (Korean Boxwood) is useful sheared into a dense, formal hedge of 2 to 4' in height and width. Also useful on either side of an entrance to formalize an entry way. Left natural, it is a many-branched, broad, mounded evergreen shrub which usually has a loose and open habit, growing to around 4 to 5' tall with an equal spread. The evergreen leaves are leathery, dark green and lustrous. Easy to grow in most any well-drained soils, planters or containers. 'Wintergreen' has better drought and pest tolerance than other boxwoods. Spring flowers are insignificant, though quite fragrant.

This evergreen shrub requires no pruning, though may be pruned or sheared at any time of year as a formal or informal hedge or specimen, or to remove stray or broken branches. Selective pruning with sharp hand pruners is recommended, though this shrub responds well to shearing without much noticeable scarring of leaves. Left alone, with no pruning, this shrub will form a dense, natural hedge or shrub. One yearly pruning can easily keep this plant in bounds in most landscape settings, unless it is clipped into a formal hedge or shaped specimen where two or three clippings may be needed.
